Emsteel Group Partners with Modon for Green Steel Supply: Pioneering a Sustainable Future

Table of Contents

The signing of a strategic agreement for the supply of green steel between Emsteel Group, one of the leading manufacturers of steel, and Modon Properties, a prominent real estate developer, follows another substantial step taken by the United Arab Emirates on the road to sustainability and decarbonization. The collaboration is in line with the UAE’s Net-Zero 2050 Strategy, which marks an important milestone in promoting low-carbon building materials across key infrastructure and real estate projects, but more importantly, this strategic agreement embodies a path wherein it would support the construction industry to develop sustainable practices.

Designed to sanction emissions cuts during steel production, this initiative now leverages on the already developed collaboration between Emsteel and Masdar’s pilot green hydrogen project, which uses renewable hydrogen energy to create green steel and lessens carbon loads significantly than standard steel-making practices.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

  • Modon becomes the first real estate developer in the UAE to integrate low-carbon steel into its projects.
  • Green steel from Emsteel contributes to reducing the carbon footprint in high-impact construction sectors such as bridges, commercial complexes, and residential developments.
  • This innovation sets new benchmarks for environmentally responsible building practices in the MENA region.

Installation of green steel in large projects is important for achieving carbon neutrality in construction. The UAE’s mission of sustainable urban development would find green steel applied in:

  1. Infrastructure Projects – Bridges, tunnels, and sustainable transportation systems.
  2. Energy Sector – Renewable energy installations, including solar and wind projects.
  3. Industrial and Commercial Developments – Reducing emissions in a large-scale construction project.

Emsteel’s CEO, Saeed Alghafri, emphasized that the adoption of green hydrogen steel production demonstrates the company’s leadership in reducing industrial emissions and supporting the national hydrogen economy. Ibrahim Al Maghribi, Modon’s CEO, highlighted the partnership’s importance in meeting the UAE’s green targets while creating sustainable, resilient communities.
